Pre-Wedding Skin Treatments - How to Get Ready by the Month

Pre-Wedding Skin Treatments - How to Get Ready by the Month

Your wedding day is one of the most important and memorable days of your life. With all eyes on you, it's only natural to want to look and feel your absolute best.

Achieving radiant skin on your wedding day requires careful planning and a well-executed skin care routine. In this guide, we will take you through a step-by-step timeline of your pre-wedding skin preparation, including a month by month treatment breakdown.

Bridal Skin Concerns

Before diving into a plethora of skincare treatments, it is important to start by setting specific goals for your skin - such as reducing acne, working on skin texture, or improving hydration. These goals will serve as the foundation for your pre-wedding skin plan and allow us to work together to create a targeted treatment plan.

Common Bridal Skin Concerns

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Skin texture

  • Acne scars

  • Acne and Congestion

  • Double chin

Treatments for Fine lines and Wrinkles

When it comes to addressing fine lines and wrinkles, cosmetic injections offer effective solutions for achieving a more refreshed look on your wedding day.

Cosmetic injections, such as anti-wrinkle injections, are highly effective in treating fine lines and wrinkles. Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly used to target wrinkles in areas such as the lateral canthal lines (crow's feet), forehead lines, and glabellar lines, helping to relax the underlying facial muscles and provide a smoother appearance.

In addition to anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers are another option for combating fine lines and wrinkles. By adding a touch of volume to areas with deeper static wrinkles, such as smile lines and other facial contours, dermal fillers help to restore youthful fullness.
Cosmetic injections can be complemented with non-invasive collagen stimulating treatment such as Thermage or Ultherapy. These treatments use energy to stimulate collagen production, which helps to tighten, firm and lift the skin, giving you a more rejuvenated and refreshed appearance. Read our Thermage vs Ultherapy blog to find out which treatment may be most suitable for you.
Disclaimer: Cosmetic or invasive procedures can carry risks and side effects. Individual results and the number of treatments required may vary between individuals. We advise all of our patients to consult with our cosmetic nurses to determine suitability for treatment.

Treatments for Skin Texture

Skin texture is one of the most common skin concerns that we see at our clinic. While skin concerns such as pigmentation are a lot easier to conceal with makeup - skin texture can be a little bit trickier to work with. If you are working with your wedding makeup artist to figure out your wedding day makeup look, addressing any skin texture concerns that you may have will help to make your makeup look even better. Depending on your skin texture concerns, there are a few different options that you can consider to achieve smoother skin.
For acne concerns, we recommend Fotona Fractional Laser Resurfacing. This treatment stimulates collagen production to remodel acne scars, smoothing out the skin’s texture. Another option is Vivace Radiofrequency Microneedling. This treatment is suitable for all skin types and is effective at treating acne scars and skin texture concerns. An additional benefit of Vivace is that it can tighten the skin to improve the appearance of fine lines.
When treating concerns such as skin texture and acne scars, a personalised approach needs to be taken to achieve best results. It may be that a combination of these treatments is the best solution to improve your skin texture. During your initial consultation, our experienced staff will recommend treatments based on your skin type and specific skin texture concerns.

Treatments for Acne

Smooth, acne-free skin will make your makeup look that extra bit better on your special day. Depending on the cause of your acne and the type of acne that you have, we offer a range of different treatments.
For inflamed acne such as pustules, papules and cysts, Fotona acne revision laser may be a suitable option. This advanced laser treatment has three different mechanisms to treat acne. First, it prevents further acne from forming by destroying the overactive sebaceous glands in the skin. Secondly, it helps to treat active acne by reducing inflammation within the skin. Finally, Fotona acne revision laser assists in speeding up the acne healing process.
For congested skin, we recommend a combination of Mesoestetic Chemical Peels and our BalaBala 7 Step Hydra Facial. Mesoestetic Chemical Peels using salicylic acid can help to clear up congestion and smooth the skin. Salicylic acid works by gently exfoliate away dead skin cells and congestion, while also sticking to oils that are in our pores to help clear them out. Balabala’s 7 Step Hydra Facial includes extractions and a pore cleaning vacuum step, which helps to remove any build up and congestion in the skin.

Treatments for Double Chin

At BalaBala, our preferred treatment for double chin fat reduction is truSculpt body sculpting. truSculpt is a completely non-invasive treatment that is fast, effective and pain-free. It uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to melt the fat cells in your body. Over a period of 12 weeks, these fat cells will be gradually disposed of through your lymphatic system. For this reason, we suggest brides-to-be to plan their body sculpting treatments in advance to allow enough time before your wedding day.
Another reason why we love truSculpt is that it also helps to tighten the skin. The skin tightening benefits of truSculpt will help to sculpt and define the neck area.
  • Fast, effective treatment (only 15 minutes)

  • Clinical trials have showed on average a 24 percent fat reduction

  • Completely non-invasive

  • Comfortable, no downtime

  • Double chin, abdomen, arms, thighs, flanks

Bridal Facials

BalaBala Laser Clinic offers a range of personalised facials that are targeted for your skin concerns. Facials are a great skin maintenance treatment before your wedding, as they can help to keep your skin in good shape. All of our facials have been created with hydration and skin barrier health in mind, incorporating a range of steps that deeply hydrate and moisturise the skin. We offer targeted facials for acne prone skin, skin brightening, hydration, redness, anti-ageing and more.

Wedding Skin Prep Timeline

So you have identified the main skin concerns that you would like to target in your bridal skin plan - now it is time for us to put together a timeline of your plan to help achieve your desired results in time for your wedding day.

Skin Treatments to Book Twelve Months Before Your Wedding

If you are considering cosmetic injectables for the first time, we recommend scheduling an appointment with one of our cosmetic nurses as a starting point. This time frame allows for any necessary adjustments or touch-ups before your wedding day, so that you can be confident and comfortable with your look. BalaBala’s cosmetic nurses can guide you through your areas of concerns and discuss the different options that are available to you. Everyone has different areas of concerns and desired results - what works for one person might not work for another.
For those with acne concerns, it is recommended to start any acne treatments well in advance. Consistency and patience is the key to successfully treating acne. If your skin does not respond to a particular acne treatment, this time frame gives our skin therapists enough time to make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan in time for your wedding day. For more severe types of acne, we recommend visiting your GP or Dermatologist.

Six to Nine Months Before the Wedding:

During this period, it is ideal to undergo treatments that may slightly irritate your skin. If you are looking to work on skin texture or anti-ageing treatments, this is the best window to start. Treatments for skin texture such as Vivace RF microneedling or Fotona Fractional Laser Resurfacing may require three sessions or more to achieve your desired results. Furthermore, each treatment session must be spaced about four weeks apart to allow enough time for the skin to heal and recover.
If skin tightening and fine lines are your main concern, you can do a non-invasive skin tightening treatment such as Thermage FLX during this period. Thermage FLX can stimulate your own collagen production for up to 6 months post treatment. Therefore, optimal results are usually seen around this time frame.
truSculpt double chin treatments can also be started six to nine months before your wedding day. For most people, a course of three treatments spaced two to three weeks apart is ideal.

Four Months Before the Wedding

To maintain the progress that you have achieved, continue with skin rejuvenating treatments such lasers, RF microneedling and facials. With four months remaining, you have sufficient time to recover and schedule one to two additional treatments before your wedding day. During this period, it is also important to establish a consistent maintenance and hydration routine. Incorporate gentle cleansers, hydrating serums, and regular sunscreen application to protect and nourish your skin. Find more tips for healthy, hydrated skin in our skin barrier health guide

One Month Before:

In the final month leading up to your wedding, consider any desired final injectables or a wedding facial. However, it is best to avoid introducing new treatments or products to your skincare regimen at this stage. Stick to what you have already received and focus on gentle, hydrating facials. Now is not the time to be trying new treatments or skincare and risk irritating your skin!

One to Two Weeks Before:

Treat yourself to a pre-wedding facial, such as a BalaBala Hydration Facial, to help hydrate and calm your skin. Avoid using any active ingredients that may cause irritation or redness, such as retinol or exfoliating acids. Focus on gentle hydrating products to promote a calm and glowing appearance.
