How it works
Fotona Fractional Laser Resurfacing is precisely controlled to target the optimal depth in the skin, engaging your body's natural wound-healing response to stimulate new collagen. The result is a visible improvement in skin texture, tone, fine lines and acne scarring. Because the laser treats fractional micro-columns rather than the whole surface, the surrounding skin is left intact — so healing is faster and downtime is shorter than with fully ablative resurfacing.

Prep & Aftercare
WHAT TO EXPECT
Treatment typically takes 45 minutes, with no downtime allowing you to return to your daily routine immediately.
PREPARATION
To get the best result and keep the treatment safe, please follow these guidelines before your session:
- Avoid sun exposure and fake tan for 2 weeks beforehand.
- Tell us about any recent injectable treatments so we can plan timing.
- Pause Retin-A / retinol for 3 days before treatment.
- Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin on the treatment area.
- Avoid skin peels for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
- Let us know if you're prone to cold sores, as we may recommend preventive medication before resurfacing.
AFTERCARE
1. Avoid Rubbing or Scratching Your Skin
Some patients may experience mild redness or tenderness after treatment. Avoid touching, rubbing, or scratching the treated area to allow your skin to heal naturally and enhance results.
2. Refrain from Applying Makeup
The skin may be more sensitive after laser treatment. Avoid applying foundation, powders, or other makeup for the first few days, as this may irritate the skin or clog pores, delaying recovery.
3. Keep Your Skin Hydrated
You may apply a cold medical or mild hydrating sheet mask starting the first evening (at least 4 hours post-treatment). Use it nightly for one week to accelerate soothing and recovery.
4. Gently Cleanse Your Skin
Use cool or lukewarm water with a gentle, oil-free cleanser. Avoid exfoliants, scrubs, or vigorous washing to support the healing process and enhance laser results.
5. First Week – What to Avoid
• Avoid exfoliation or chemical peels (including AHAs, BHAs, or Retinol).
• Avoid other aesthetic treatments such as laser or RF.
• Do not use harsh or active skincare products.
6. First 72 Hours – What to Avoid
• No alcohol consumption.
• Avoid swimming, hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms.
• Avoid strenuous exercise or any activity that causes heavy sweating.
• Pause the use of Vitamin C skincare products.
7. Don’t Skip Sun Protection
Avoid direct sun exposure and apply SPF 30+ sunscreen daily. UV rays can increase the risk of skin damage and affect your treatment results.

Fotona Fractional Resurfacing Laser FAQs
You may want to consider fractional laser treatments if your skin concerns are caused by ageing, excessive sun exposure, or acne and cannot be resolved with regular skincare products.
One or more of the skin issues listed below can be treated with laser skin resurfacing:
• Scars
• Acne scars
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Enlarged pores
• Uneven skin tone
Fotona Fractional Laser Resurfacing uses Er:YAG laser to effectively improve skin texture and tone. The laser precisely and gently vaporizes micron-thin layers of the textured skin surface to reveal healthy, undamaged skin below. Instead of treating the entire skin surface, fractional lasers deliver precise columns of laser energy into the skin. The benefit of this is that the skin in between these columns is spared - leading to faster healing, minimised downtime and less risks.
Fotona Fractional Laser Resurfacing is precisely controlled to target the optimal depth, engaging the body’s wound-healing response to stimulate the production of new collagen and skin tissues. The result is an improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, skin texture and skin tone. Fractional skin resurfacing is particularly effective for aged skin or textural concerns such as acne scars.
The laser delivers precisely placed columns of energy that penetrate the skin’s surface, creating controlled micro-injuries while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected.
This produces an array of treated and untreated areas, triggering new cell regeneration and encouraging collagen growth for visibly smoother, healthier skin.
Fotona fractional laser resurfacing is best suited to fairer skin types who have textural concerns, mild to moderate wrinkles or other skin ageing concerns. Those with darker skin types may be more likely to experience some complications, including hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation. Our experienced laser specialists will do a thorough skin analysis before performing any treatment. Patients who are pregnant, breast feeding, have keloid scarring or have been on Vitamin A medications (such as Roaccutane) in the past 6 months are not suitable for laser resurfacing treatments.
There is a recovery period of up to a week, depending on the laser settings used and the patient’s desired outcomes. It is likely that you will experience some redness and swelling during the recovery period, followed by some crusting of the skin. However, the downtime with Fotona fractional resurfacing is significantly less compared to fully ablative lasers like CO2 lasers.
The number of treatments required will depend on the skin concern being treated. A minimum of 3 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart is initially recommended. For more severe acne scarring or skin texture concerns, more treatments may be required.
Fotona Fractional Resurfacing Laser can address a wide range of skin concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, uneven skin tone, and texture irregularities. This treatment is suitable for refreshing the skin's appearance by stimulating collagen production and triggering the body's natural healing process.
All cosmetic procedures carry risks, and outcomes vary from person to person. These procedures may involve side effects, complications, recovery periods, and the need for ongoing care. As laser resurfacing renews the skin's surface, it usually involves a short recovery of redness and light flaking over several days, and it may be less suitable for darker skin tones — this is discussed at your consultation. No treatment can be guaranteed to achieve a specific result, and individual responses will differ depending on personal factors such as health history, skin type and anatomy.
Our advertising does not use testimonials or before-and-after images, as these may create unrealistic expectations. We also do not target people under 18. A consultation is required before any procedure, during which a registered health practitioner will discuss your goals, the potential risks and benefits, alternative options, recovery requirements, and whether the procedure is suitable for you.
Deciding to undergo a cosmetic procedure should be a carefully considered choice. We encourage you to take time, ask questions, and make an informed decision that is right for you.
